Proclamation Day

Posted by lslevin8256 on 22nd March 2016

On Tuesday March 15th the pupils and staff of our school, together with the wider community of Rosemount, celebrated Proclamation Day.

To remember and commemorate the events of Easter 1916 we raised our National flag, read the Proclamation of the Republic and sang Amhrán na bhFiann.

This was followed by speeches from the seven boys in 5th class, in character as the seven signatories of the Proclamation.

We then enjoyed a musical journey through 1916, where the senior pupils sang and played pieces associated with the Easter Rising, The Children of 16, The Green Fields of France, I see his blood upon the rose. Finally the entire school choir from Infants to 6th class joined in a beautiful rendition of Oró sé do bheatha bhaile.

Our Commemoration Ceremony concluded with a display of artefacts from 1916 and also an opportunity for parents and members of the community to view children’s projects about the Easter Rising.
